Corks in the bottom of plant pots help drainage without adding a lot of extra weight, making the pots lighter to move around.

Corks are also useful on the end of garden canes to avoid any nasty accidents when you are not paying attention. Glued to a board they make an interesting notice board. Alternatively, corks are fine to compost - chop them up a bit to help them rot down more quickly.
