We maintain and are continuing to explore links with other churches overseas to provide long term encouragement and support for them and also so that we may learn and be challenged in return.
Peru
During August 2006, Paul Turner and Katie Mead had an amazing time in Peru. They spent a week in the capital Lima using puppets, balloon modelling and craft activities to share God's love with over 200 children. The children came from all over a poorer area of Lima called La Tablada.
Paul and Katie were especially encouraged by working alongside the church at La Tablada and Jono Shimwell, a Latin Link missionary working there. They then headed down to Arequipa in the south of Peru to spend a week working at the Shalom centre for disabled children and young people.
One of the highlights of the trip was going down to the coast with six of the youngsters for a weekend. Some of them had never been to the seaside before and they had a wonderful time.
Gavin and Kirsteen Magee, formerly of Christchurch, joined Paul and Katie for their last couple of days in Arequipa and for a well earned break in the city of Cusco. It was Paul's seventh visit to Machu Picchu, but no less breathtaking this time round.
Paul and Katie were very aware of God being with them throughout their time in Peru and would like to thank everyone for their support and prayers.
